The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken

This review is going to be short and sweet... just like what I thought of Rachel Van Dyken's THE BET. It's definitely a quick, fun read.
"I have a proposition for you." Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. It's been years since Kacey's seen her childhood friend Jake, but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything for the sweet old woman. And if that means pretending they're engaged for her sake-so be it.

But Kacey wasn't counting on Jake's older brother Travis still being there. She calls him "Satan" for a reason: she's never forgotten the way he teased and taunted her. Yet when they meet again, Travis's gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey's more confused than ever. As the days pass, only one thing starts to become alarmingly clear-she never should have accepted Jake's deal . .
I won't keep you, guys, long so let me go right ahead and say that THE BET was such a joy to read! I've read Rachel Van Dyken's heart-wrenching RUIN and now with THE BET, I got to see another side to her writing. THE BET was truly a quick, lighthearted read whereas RUIN was so emotionally debilitating. The seemingly effortless wit and easy flow that I've come to associate with Rachel Van Dyken's writing style is still threaded throughout the book. I guess it showcases her versatility.

I loved reading every word of THE BET. It's a feel-good book, the kind of book you would enjoy reading as you put your feet up, sit back, and relax after a loooooooong day at school or work.

I thought I was done with all the love triangle fiascos. I mean, I thought everything has already been said and done about the whole thing. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that THE BET really put something new on the table. It's a cute, fun twist to the whole girl-torn-between-two-amazingly-hot-brothers. So, yeah. That's basically the story line.

Kacey had always been close to the Tituses. She was best friends with Jake Titus for most of her life. Jake's older brother, Travis, on the other hand, had made her life a living hell from the time the moment they met. After a mistake that cost them their lifelong friendship-and-almost-relationship, Kacey and Jake sort of had a falling out. It was devastating for Kacey to lose Jake, a man she thought she loved at that time. To make matters worse, it couldn't have happened in a more unfortunate and desperate time in Kacey's life.

So, years later, imagine Kacey's surprise when Jake fake-proposed for the sake of his dear-old grandma after years of almost no contact. This opened up the jar of feelings Kacey has kept a tight lid on since that unfortunate night. Although THE BET was light-hearted all-around, I think the tragic backstory also added a nice touch to the plot. It contributed to the foundation for Kacey's character and I think it added a whole layer to her. She's not just a lovesick girl pining for a what-could-have-been.

Kacey agreed. As she spent time with the Tituses, what she did not expect was to find an undeniable shift in her relationship with Travis, her personal Satan. Who would've thought a sexy, thoughtful man was lying underneath all the joking and the teasing. Everybody expected Kacey to become a Titus someday. But which brother would she finally choose?

YES. TRAVIS TITUS IS SEXY! I was on Team Travis right from the start. Jake did seem a bit like an asshole (with a few redeeming qualities here and there) but for the most part, I was Team Travis all the way! That's another thing that I liked so much about THE BET. Threaded through the light-hearted story is a sexy undertone in the form of the sexual tension between Kacey and Travis.

So, yeah. THE BET is another great read from Rachel Van Dyken, complete with the heartwarming style of storytelling that I've come to associate with her books.

A must-read for all you New Adult fans out there. :)
