Beyond What is Given (Flight and Glory #3) by Rebecca Yarros

There’s just something about military romances that draw me in like a moth to a flame. And of all the military romances I’ve read, Rebecca Yarros’ Flight and Glory Series ranks high up there on my list as some of the most moving books I’ve read in this particular sub-genre. I’ve read both Full Measures and Eyes Turned Skyward but Beyond What is Given, which tells Sam and Grayson’s story, takes the cake!

Synopsis:
Lt. Grayson Masters is focused on graduating the Apache helicopter course, and the last thing he needs is his gorgeous new roommate Samantha Fitzgerald distracting him. While her smart mouth and free spirit are irresistibly irritating, he can’t deny their off-the-charts chemistry, no matter how hard he tries.

Having just been expelled from college, Sam has no business digging for Grayson’s secrets while she’s hiding her own, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to tear down his walls. Each barrier she busts through drops one of her own, though, and she’s not prepared for the truth: another woman laid claim to Grayson’s heart long ago.

Falling in love is something neither Grayson nor Sam can afford, and when that line is crossed and secrets are exposed, they’ll learn that sometimes it’s the answered prayers that will put you through hell.

OREN fucking TENNING has been my favorite Forbidden man right from the very beginning. And A PERFECT TEN is nothing short of a perfect story for the most perfect couple in this series IMHO.

Synopsis:
Let your hair down, Caroline, they said. It'll be fun, they said.

I know I've closed myself off in a major way over the past year, ever since “the incident” where I messed up my life completely. It's past time I try to live again or just give up altogether. But this is quite possibly the craziest thing I've ever done. In a last ditch effort to invigorate myself, I'm standing outside Oren Tenning's bedroom, I just peeled off the sexiest pair of underwear I own, and my hand is already raised to knock. My brother would disown me for doing anything with his best friend, and he'd probably kill Oren. But if I play my cards right, no one will ever know about this. Not even Ten.

Maybe after tonight, I’ll finally get over this stupid, irrational crush I hate having on the biggest jerk I’ve ever met. Or maybe I’ll just end up falling for him even harder. Maybe I’ll discover there’s so much more to my crude, carefree hunk than meets the eye.

Ever since I was a kid, I have always been fascinated with cars and Formula1. My father is a big fan of the sport and growing up with boys who can only talk about two things, cars and computer games, kind of cemented my fascination as well. You guys wouldn’t believe how long I’ve been scouring the book world for a romance novel that features Formula1. So imagine my delight when my cousin Ana (of Ana Rabacca Book Blog)  recommended REVVED to me.

SYNOPSIS:
Race car mechanic Andressa "Andi" Amaro has one rule—no dating drivers. With a good reason behind the rule, she has no plans on breaking it.

Carrick Ryan is the bad boy of Formula One. With a face and body that melts panties on sight, and an Irish lilt that leaves women on their knees, begging for more. He races hard and parties harder. The youngest driver to ever sign with F1, he’s still at the top of his game five years later, breaking hearts on and off the tracks.

When Andi is offered her dream job working in the glamorous world of F1, she leaves her home in Brazil, positive she can handle working for Carrick. But she’s not prepared for the off-the-chart sparks that fly the moment they meet.

Now, Andi has a crush on the one man she can’t have, and her resolve is about to be put to the test, because Carrick has decided he wants Andi, and he plans on testing her to the very limit…

I’ve been a die-hard fan of Rachel van Dyken ever since RUIN. It’s one of the very first NA novels I’ve read so it’s no wonder that this series is very close to my heart. RvD captured my heart with RUIN, gripped me tighter with TOXIC, and still kept pulling me under with FEARLESS.

I was afraid to read SHAME because Lisa isn’t really one of my favorite characters in the first two-and-a-half books. I guess, in my mind, the books preceding SHAME set the bars so high that I didn’t know how RvD would top them.

I’m not disappointed with how SHAME turned out but I’m not totally pleased either. I’m still on the fence whether I want to love it or not so let’s just give it…

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Synopsis:
Everything done in darkness, will eventually be brought into the light.

I ran, but all it did was keep me one step ahead of my past. I tried to start over; new name, new identity. But you can't change your soul.
A fresh start at college was just what I needed. For a while, it worked. I was the party girl, the one that seemed confident, but it was a lie.
When guys kissed me--I felt only pain.
When they touched me--Nothing but fear.

Deep inside, every girl wants to be the beauty in the story, to find someone that will see you as their world.
But the truth? I was the beast. And as much as I wanted redemption, I wasn't fool enough to think I'd ever get it.
Until he walked into my life.

I wasn't prepared to fall for someone. My scars were too deep, the wounds too raw. But he offered me peace, he offered me security. I should have known it was just another lie--I should have known that falling in love with my professor was a bad idea.
But I was powerless to stop myself from falling.
And he was powerless to catch me.

Because the darkness finally caught up to me, and as fate would have it, a cruel twist almost bled me dry. But I'm stronger than I knew. I'm stronger than you think.
You think you know my story, but you don't....after all everyone has Shame in their lives-- and I'm no longer afraid to show you mine.

A short, sweet read that packs one hell of a gut-wrenching punch! Where are a hundred stars when you need ‘em?

Time and time again, I’ve always said how much I love books about characters with disabilities. And no, I don’t mean that sadistically. As an occupational therapist by profession (well, soon anyway – graduating this June!), these stories already have a place reserved in my bookish heart.

Rating: More than 5 out of 5 stars

Synopsis:
When it comes to love there’s no such thing as conventional.

Everyone thinks Colton Neely is special.

Lilly Evans just thinks he’s fascinating.

Once friends when they were younger, their bond is cut short due to her accident prone nature and they go their separate ways. Years later, they meet again and Lilly learns that there is something special about the boy she once knew, but she has no idea what it all means. And she’s not sure if she’s ready to find out.

When he walks through the corridor of her school the first day of her senior year, she knows that it’s time to get to know the real Colton Neely. The more she learns, the deeper she falls.

Their friendship grows into love, even as Colton does not express it in words. But one decision threatens to break down the world that Lilly has tried so hard to integrate into and she must figure out if the relationship can survive if they are apart.

I admit that I fall in love with books easily. I’ve been reading all these amazing stories lately and it seems like I keep doling out 5 stars like it’s nobody’s business. But it’s not every day that I come across a book that well and truly captures my heart and my mind that 5 measly stars isn’t enough to express how much I loved it.

I just found another one of those 5+++ kind of books in Katy Regnery’s The Vixen and the Vet.

Rating: (Right, you guessed it) Above and beyond 5 out of 5 stars!

Synopsis:
Burned by an unreliable source, Savannah Carmichael, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get her skin back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn’t been seen since.

After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher’s hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy…that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress and a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn’t felt in years.

Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other’s hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they’ll have to decide if the love they found in one another’s arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

The Dare (The Bet #3) by Rachel Van Dyken

And here I thought Grandma Nadine’s meddling ended with the Titus brothers. I’ve never been gladder to be wrong in my whole life. Written in Rachel van Dyken’s trademark wit and humor, The Dare is an enjoyable end (?) to her Bet books. But damn, I don’t think I’m prepared to say goodbye to Grandma just yet!

Rating: 4 out of 5 Grandma Nadine stars

Synopsis:
Boring Beth Lynn has always lived up to her nickname… until she wakes up in a hotel bed next to a sexy as sin state senator she re-connected with at a wedding the previous night.

The biggest problem? She can't seem to remember anything about the night before except for crying into a box of cookies, and she’s pretty sure Grandma Nadine slipped something in her drink. And what should have been a one night stand turns into a six day adventure when Grandma whisks them off to Hawaii to save them from the ensuing media firestorm.

Jace isn't looking for commitment — he believes he made that clear when he left the wedding with Beth. Then again, he can't remember much of anything other than the way her skin felt beneath his hands. Now he's stuck with her at some lame couple’s retreat and trying his hardest to fight the attraction only a woman like Beth could invoke.

He doesn’t think it can get any worse.

But one spider attack… A donkey ride from hell… And an unfortunate episode with Viagra tea — and there’s one thing Jace knows for sure: He should never have agreed to Grandma Nadine’s suggestion in the first place.
Because if this isn’t paradise, and it isn’t a vacation — that only leaves one option.

Survival.

But to make it through alive… they might lose their hearts in the process.

Breaking Fences (The Breaking Series #2) by Juliana Haygert

I can’t believe I haven’t heard about this series or Juliana Haygert before! Because seriously, this is one of the best books I’ve read this year and I’m just dying to read Breaking the Reins. It’s different, it’s sweet, it’s a bit angsty (but not too much)… a just right blend of what a good NA story should be. This is the first book of hers that I’ve read and I must say that I am thoroughly satisfied yet left wanting for more (in an I-need-another-Juliana-Haygert-book-right-now kind of way).

Rating: 5 out of horsey 5 stars for Breaking Fences!
All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.

College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding.

But one thing gets in the way of her escape. Garrett Blackwell and his bad cowboy attitude. Working at the ranch is his obligation, bugging Bia is his newfound hobby. His thick skin and easy grin don’t hide what Bia already knows—this misunderstood and lonely cowboy fights his own demons. Brushing horses’ coats and mucking out stalls shouldn’t be this sexy, and it isn’t long before he becomes a part of her distraction.

However, escaping won’t solve her problems, and it’s up to Bia to break down the fences around her and prove her strength—not to her family and friends, but to herself … and for Garrett. Because standing on her own doesn’t have to mean standing alone.

** Companion novel of Breaking the Reins. Can be read out of order.**
