I really, really wanted to love this book. Don’t get me wrong; it’s got the makings of a great book: a good plotline, interesting characters, and a good set-up for sequels. However, it kind of fell short for me overall.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Synopsis:
Maia wants to be free. Free from the social obligations, free from the money, free from the control that her privileged upbringing has taken from her life. And at college, she wants to be unseen, unheard, unnoticed.

Jackson's life has been less than perfect since his high school girlfriend took the back door out of his life, permanently. After years of subscribing to an existence of less than gentlemanly behaviour, he decides to man up and go to college, promising to be done with random hook ups and female drama.

They had it all worked out, each one had a plan.

At least they did...until they met.

Together they run from everything; from life, from happiness, from each other. They are two people both so scared; of heartbreak, of repeating past mistakes, of trusting someone else. Two people simply scared of beautiful...

Please note: Scared of Beautiful is recommended for mature audiences 18+ due to sexual content and language

Shattering Halos (Halos #1) by Sunniva Dee

It’s been a while since I last read a good Paranormal Romance novel, and not for lack of trying. Sunniva Dee’s Shattering Halos reminded me how awesome this genre can be. I was gushing about it right after I read it but after some much-needed stewing, I couldn't ignore the major hang-ups I had while reading the book. I liked the fact that it’s got the whole NA thing going on but this series has its work cut out for it if it wants to make it into the big leagues of PNR. Given that assessment, I still think Shattering Halos is a book worth reading (and Halos a series worth following)

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Sunshine Stars

Synopsis:
I traded my death for love. I wasn’t given a choice. His decision has caught up with us, so now I am a living, breathing catalyst to war between Heaven and Hell.

The violations he committed saved my life. Since the collision, he’s appeared everywhere. In my hospital room, my school, even my house. He shows up in my paintings, my drawings, in all of my art projects. I can’t stop thinking about him.

He says his name is Gabriel, and he doesn’t understand what’s happening to him. He doesn’t know how I can see him or why he wants me in ways that should be impossible for a Celestial.

My obsession grows. I need him to hold me, kiss me—give all of himself. For every day he protects me, the consequences loom darker and taller. Soon, they’ll crash down on us.

The war is about to begin.

Break you by Jennifer Snyder

*Thank you to the author for providing the ebook in exchange for an honest review*

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

If you’ve been following my blog and my reviews for a while then you should know by now that I am a big fan of New Adult Contemporary Romance Novels. When I got the chance to review Jennifer Snyder’s Break You, I was all for it. It fits right in with the kind of books that I usually read. As I was reading it though, I found that it didn’t appeal to me as much as I hoped it would. I was tempted to put it down a few times and mark it as DNF, but I was determined to see it through to the end. After all, it did start out with a really exciting premise but it kind of fell short in the middle. It only picked up again during the last fifth of the book and then, to my disappointment, fell on a flat ending.

Synopsis:
Blaire Hayes enjoys a quiet life, spending her days as a CNA at the local nursing home and nights studying for exams. She prefers things to be as uncomplicated as possible -- but when her friends drag her to a party and she bumps into her high school crush, the path of Blaire’s life veers in an entirely different direction than what she had planned for herself.

Jason Bryant created a nice life away from his hometown, putting distance between himself and the suffocating sadness of his father’s death. But when he finds out his grandfather’s health is deteriorating, he decides he must return home. Partying was not on his agenda while in town, but it’s how he bumps into Blaire Hayes—the girl he’d always thought of in high school as an unobtainable pass.

Together the two learn there are moments in life that hold within them all the power to break you...

(New Adult: Contains sexual situations, language, mature themes, and alcohol usage.)

More Than This (More #1) by Jay McLean

I feel very conflicted about this book. On one hand, I think there’s a lot of promise for the rest of the series. I mean, there’s something really beautiful about the storyline. On the other hand, I can’t get over the insta-love (and not in a good way) and the naïveté of the characters.

I’m giving More Than This 3 out of 5 stars.

Blurb:
*Mikayla*
In one night my fairytale ended. Or it may have begun. This is my story of friendship and love, heartbreak and desire, and the strength to show weakness.

*Jake*
One night I met a girl. A sad and broken girl, but one more beautiful than any other. She laughed through her sadness, while I loved through her heartbreak.

*This is our story of a maybe ever after.*

He was right. It made no difference whether it was 6 months or 6 years.
I couldn’t undo what had been done. I couldn’t change the future.
I couldn’t even predict it.
It was one night.
One night when everything changed.
It was so much more than just the betrayal.
It was the Tragedy.
The Deaths.
The Murders.
But it was also that feeling.
The feeling of falling.

Tasting Never by C.M. Stunich

A nice quick read and a promising start to a series. Click READ MORE for the rest of the review. Here's the blurb:
Never Ross wants to be loved.
It's that simple, but it's not that easy.

Never is a girl with a broken soul who doesn't date nice guys and can't seem to go to bed at night without crying herself to sleep. She doesn't need any complications in her life, especially not when they're attached to a man that could be her emotional twin.

Ty McCabe can't stand Never the first time he meets her. He's aware that the feeling's mutual and the two don't think they'll ever see each other again, but when fate takes a hand and puts them both in the wrong place at the wrong time, Ty and Never form a tentative friendship that opens the door on their dark sides and shows them what it's like to live in the light.

Sometimes, the only way to go forward, is to take a few, careful steps back.
