ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sunniva Dee
I write New Adult fiction, mostly with a paranormal twist, and don't shy away from romance and heart-wrenching passion when necessary.
I moved from Norway to the United States in 2001, and the first awesome five years I spent in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles. Then I read "The Book", aka, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, which prompted me to drag my family and our menagerie of animals cross country to beautiful Savannah, Georgia.
I'm currently on my seventh year in the Deep South, where I enjoy the heat and the humidity. Besides writing, I spend time with the "petting zoo," as in an opinionated parrot, cats that are experts on keyboard shortcuts, and puppies that ...uh, bark.
I hold a Master's degree in languages, with concentrations within literature and linguistics. For ten years, I taught at university level, before settling in as a graduate adviser at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Writing is my passion, my joy-my addiction. SHATTERING HALOS is my debut novel, released by The Wild Rose Press, and when I'm not writing, I read. Tons.

INTERVIEW
Between the Pages: What inspired you to become a writer?
Sunniva Dee: Like most writers I know, it's something I've always done. I think it's in you, this need to express yourself. I remember the "exciting" stories my BFF Elin and I wrote when in middle school. I took a break from it for a while and had fun painting. But I agree with Stephenie Meyer: painting is hard! It's easier for me to express myself in writing.
BTP: What's the most difficult part of being a writer?
SD: Time. To have enough time to write everything you want to write!
BTP: Where did the idea for Shattering Halos come from?
SD: For me, Shattering Halos was like writing a film as it happened. I saw the scenes as they began and wrote them the way they looked in my head. Obviously, I had to go back and fix details, logic, rewrite, etc, but this is how my mind works best. I have loose plot lines, but most happens as I go and the characters often surprise me. It's exciting!
BTP: Do you see yourself in any of your characters?
SD: I see a tiny bit of myself in almost all of them. I can be good; I can be mean (uh, if I'm PMS-ing.) I can be insanely passionate, but also the opposite. I'm stubborn like Gaia, and I've been as immature as she is in the beginning. As far as their sex life? Mmm-no. That'd be the day for most of us, I think. ;)
BTP: If you can be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
SD: I thought you'd never ask! I would be at Mallorca, which incidentally is the setting for my next novel. I love that little Spanish island so much! My standalone sequel to Shattering Halos, Stargazer, is finished and waiting at my publisher's at the moment. Now, I'm working on the last installment of the Halos series....and I really should be at Mallorca, come to think of it. *starts pricelining tickets*
BTP: Any tips for young aspiring writers?
SD: Yes! Remember, the only thing that can stop you is yourself. Sure, it takes a little bit of talent to write, but only so much. The rest is dedication. Learning the craft. There are no shortcuts if you'd like your finished work to become something the readers enjoy. If you apply yourself and accept that you need to keep developing as a writer, you'll get there. And after publishing your first one, I believe in honing the skills you've acquired in order to get better, novel by novel. You can do it!
